Shungite in paint and varnish industries
Shungite rocks of Karelia are highly efficient energy-saving raw materials. The energy-saving potential of rocks is provided by a unique combination of composition, structure and properties. There are about 300 kg of shungite carbon in one ton of rock, which is more active than coke. This carbon is in extremely developed (up to 20 m2/g) and close contact with quartz, the content of which reaches 55%. Due to this combination of shungite carbon with quartz, the chemical reaction between them proceeds so actively that in the thermal processes of the production of cast iron, ferroalloys, silicon carbide and nitride, cobalt and nickel metallurgy, one ton of shungite rock replaces up to one ton of coke.
Shungite SHPS has high electrical conductivity, is characterized by high mechanical density and strength, excellent adhesion to all binders.
Electrically conductive powder paints, asphalt concrete, and a wide range of electrically conductive and radio-shielding building materials have been created on the basis of shungite.
Electrically conductive shungite paints are environmentally friendly, do not emit any harmful substances when heated.
Electrically conductive shungite paints can be used to create infrared heaters of low specific power (from 1 to 10 W/dm2). Such heaters are safe in terms of fire and burns. Experts believe that the use of infrared heating provides a great energy saving effect and significantly reduces operating costs. The main advantage of infrared heaters is the direct transfer of heat to all objects in the irradiation zone and the exclusion of intermediate heat carriers. The increased surface temperature of the fences helps to reduce human radiation heat loss, which makes it possible to reduce the calculated air temperature in a heated room by 2-3 oC.
Infrared heaters made of shungite paint can be the surfaces of the floor, walls, ceiling.
Electrically conductive paints can be used to create antistatic surfaces.
